Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme (BHIS) is a social security programme designed by the state government, where healthcare services of enrolees are paid from the common pool of funds contributed by participants in the scheme.
BHIS mission is to facilitate fair-financing of healthcare cost through pooling and judicious utilization of financial risk protection and cost-burden sharing for peaople against the high cost of healthcare, through prepayment programs/products prior to their falling ill. This is in addition to providing regulatory oversight to the Third Party Administrator (TPA) and participating Healthcare Providers(HCP).

Hospital care in standard wards for stay limited to cummulative 30 days per year
All eligible live births will be covered for post-natal period of 12 weeks after delivery
